Looking at the last couple of months results for Warden Law, there's only been a single GX160 powered prokart on the grid so based on that, you're guaranteed second place if you turn up with one of them. The rest of the field has been using the new sealed GX200 engines which are gaining popularity on the Northern Tracks (Warden Law, Teesside, PFI) and in my opinion is a good way to go.

Although there are some genuinely good prokarts on the likes of ebay or this site's market place, there are also a lot of sheds and it would take more than a few pointers in a forum post to keep you on the right lines. Go to Warden Law at the next race and speak to those racing - they will know where suitable race ready karts are available - you will also be able to decide if 160s or 200s are for you.

A race ready GX160 powered prokart would start at around £700 (that's what mine cost before swapping 160s for 200s) but that will have older T1 clubman engines so don't expect to set any lap records. If you want to go the 200 route, it's nearer £1600 - £1700 and they don't come up for sale very often.

If the 200 route is too expensive, there are other tracks with stronger 160 grids if you don't mind travelling about 20 miles....but you only need two karts to have a race if Warden Law is more convenient for you.
