Take the paper out, yes but leave the foam but the difference is naff all compared with the correct valve springs, clearances and ignition timing.

You should take advantage of Brian P's free eBook offer (see below). Whilst this does focus on open tuning (ie outwith the Regs) he also covers a load of general servicing areas. It certainly helped me when I first started.
