The problem arises when you try to put the plug back in with a plug spanner that has a thick side wall,It fouls on the rocker cover
Google `Spark Plug Thread Chaser` machine mart do one which cleans the thread, you will need to remove the exhaust and rocker cover to get it to align properly.Use grease so no swarf goes down the bore.
Or remove the head and do it from the other side, you might recover the thread without the need to have a thread insert done, even thread insert kits are only Ł8-9
