ah those pesky rich dads with X£££ engines, darn them!.....now I dont view myself at rich....but have you ever stopped to think that some dads were from very modest working-class upbringings, grew up absolutely skint as the have-nots, worked their nuts off at school, college then university for a better future?.....whereas others just sat at the back of the class and generally wasted their education?

believe me, the cost of buying and testing a clutch was barely breaking into 3 figures, it was less than the cost of a new set of tyres if I remember correctly.

also I forgot to mention, the BTCC is another fine example of limiting engine costs and equalizing performance, when I was a designer for Mountune in 2001-2002 the standard engine cost for a BTCC team of 2 cars for a years racing was £400,000, and everyone was gob-smacked how cheap that was, because during the super-touring days a good engine deal was £2million per season.......nowdays you can go to Swindon, buy the BTCC control engine for £25K and use it for the full season.

I'll say it again, the only way cadet engine costs can be controlled it by a pooled engine formula with a lottery draw at each round, the engines should be fitted with clutches and everything sealed by the MSA, including the 4 oil filler bungs I might add.
