Tmoon.

If you search the internet for 'flat earth', you will find loads of valid-looking web sites with people with very 'worthy titles' who will ASSURE you that the earth really IS flat.

Similarly, if you search for 'Elvis Alive' , 'Roswell Incident', 'Niel Armstrong on film set', etc..

Basically, there are enough NUTTERS out there who will believe ANY old twaddle. I kid you not, there are LOADS of people who think the world is run by green alien LIZARDS wearing masks and that Prince Phillip is one of them!

So..... how can we decide what IS the truth and what is CR*P?

Well.... it's pretty simple really, you don't waste your time using the internet as a way of finding out FACTS about scientific matters. You simply have to read PROPER journals. At worst, do what I do: use New Scientists and Scientific American. These are, effectively, reviews of the MUCH larger field of work being done that 'we' don't get a chance to read.

Obviously, they won't ALWAYS be right but they are LESS likely to tell you that 'Elvis is Alive' than BONKERS web sites!

NewScientist REGULARLY publish the more outlandish stuff TOO........ but it will be in a measured manner and will contain the 'de-bunking' about 1 week later if it is TOTAL twaddle! This week, they have a LONG argument about why Eintein was RIGHT but for the wrong reasons........ The follow-up week will be good!

The principle behind 'science' is that it challenges EVERYTHING all the time. ANYONE can produce a 'paper' and can get it published in respectable journals SO LONG AS..... the work is reviewed and checked by OTHER specialists in THAT field!

That's why you will find complete CR*P about the Climate published by all MANNER of other scientists, e.g., Chemists, rocket scientists, neuro surgeons etc.. It's BECAUSE they CANNOT be reviewed by their 'peers' in any VALID way as THEIR 'peers' know NOTHING about climate science EITHER! That's why you'll see that all Singers' old twaddle is ALWAYS by someone who knows NOTHING about climate science and it is NEVER published in the 'better' journals becasue it would be LAUGHED at because of the niavity!

So..... yes you WILL find complete TWADDLE on every subject on the Earth (and beyond) if you actually BELIEVE the results on the internet.

Skeptics won't beleive me, so....... I'll give you an example:

The BONKERS argument that the earth is HOLLOW and the core can be accessed via the North and South poles..... a bit like an olive!

It's BLATANTLY mindless to believe such ABSOLUTE B******ks but....... look at THESE web sites:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollow_Earth

http://www.ourhollowearth.com/

http://www.v-j-enterprises.com/holearth.html

http://paranormal.about.com/cs/hollowearth/

http://skepdic.com/hollowearth.html

Those are JUST the first five from a google search!

Errr..... hold on...................
.....................
.......

Sorry: I got delayed there by READING some of the utter B*A*L*L*S! One site suggests that HITLER escaped by moving INTO the hollow earth.....

My god............ whatever will the think of NEXT!!!!

So..... the answer is simple: the internet can give you ANSWERS but you need to look at who WROTE them and if the writer is CREDIBLE and is it backed up by proper PROOF and EVIDENCE!

The last method is simpler....... if Singers believes it, it's almost CERTAIN to be TOTAL B*LL*CKS!
