Nortons is the speed killer on a pc.

Download AVG, it's free if you choose the basic one and it doesn't muller the speed anything like Nortons does.

Download the Spybot program.

It's free but be careful where you download it from, use the Spybot site.

This will find any odd adverty intrusions that can stop PC's working.

See if you can get hold of a registry cleaner to tidy up the apalling registry that Microsoft use.

We used to have problems with Virgin at certain times when it would just hang and we'd have to reset the modem.

Sky seems to be fine.

What happens to the lights on your modem when it locks up?
