Part of the problem with traffic laws is that people perceive offences to be relatively minor, especially when "all the scary murderers, rapists and paedos get away with so much." However, the consequences of traffic violations are often far greater. An innocent mistake on one day can be a multiple fatality RTA the next.
For example, a drunk driver can be stopped on his way home and face a driving ban. Someone falling asleep at the wheel can find themselves on a railway line and cause tens of deaths. Both are equally bad in my mind since the they both show equal disregard for the safety of others.
