recently when insuring a new van, it takes generally 72 hrs to update on to the database.
insurance wise, your insured from the second you accept your policy. the police are generally understanding and give you a weeks good grace to get your car tax, it is back dated in anycase when taxing your car so its not like you are gaining anything buy buying it later than its due.
