we are a public service, over the last few decades your taxes have not paid for any royal mail wages......the profits have been taken by ever government in power and at the cost of the pension pot, which because of greed the public will now have to pay for

you can not compare royal mail to tnt, ukmail etc we operate under different rules

we are a public service and tied to an agreement which means everyone pays the same to post anywhere in the country "universal service", this covers pillar boxes covering the whole country with no gap bigger than 2 miles.......this is not a problem (lose on some areas, profit in others ) until postcomm allowed tnt, ukmail to cherry pick the profit areas..ie cities and leave royal mail the bits they didnt want and also force royal mail to let them hijack our systems to move their mail around..check where the stamp used to be on the mail if it has tnt, ukmail etc then the only bit royal mail is involved in is the walking bit.........the profit lose side and for all their talk they dont want to put postpeople on the streets.........just the streets that make money

Give the Public a service - Yep that's Royal Mails job and guess how they do that

1. Close 3,500 Post Offices.

2. Reduce the service at 1000s of others.

3. Allow the Government to withdraw some of the services you used to be able to get at POs.

4. Ceased Sunday Collections (now for anyone to get anything on Monday you need to send it before 1230 on Saturday.

5. Cancelled Bank Holiday Collections.

6. Cancelled 2nd Delivery

7. Made the 1st delivery later than the 2nd ever was.

8. Laid off 60,000 workers through various means.

9. Close delivery offices and amalgamate them into Super DOs on industrial estates miles from bus routes.

10. Bring in a complicated and expensive postage system. (Pricing in Proportion).

11. Increase handling fees for Import from £4 to £8.

12. Increase the surcharge of underpaid items to £1.

13. Increase stamp prices above inflation.

14. Agree a price with DSA (ie tnt, ukmail etc) competitors to use our network which means we subsidise them to the tune of 2p per item.

15. Take 5 years to spend half of the 1.2billion the government loaned them, but we are still yet to see the machines in use on a UK wide basis even though trials are going well according to Royal Mail.

16. Removing Mail Cycles and replacing them with cars and then claiming they are doing everything to reduce carbon emissions.

17. Half day closing for all Callers Offices and a delay of up to 72 hours before you can collect parcels/letters after getting a "Sorry you were out Card"

some parts of the media will say it is for more pay it is not even part of it we accepted a pay freeze with no issues this year, the service for the public, business and people trying to deliver that service is being destroyed.........as our union boss said " 2 days lose of mail versus lose of the whole service if the powers to be get their way,"...........what strikes do is bring issues to the public view and questions that need to be answered, who do you trust the big guys who have just earned a 3+ million bonus
Chief executive Adam Crozier has been awarded a total of £2.4m in performance bonuses since arriving at the company in 2003. The figure boosted his £3.6m salary over the period by two-thirds – but it does not include a series of further perks that have added millions to his pay package during his time at the troubled company.

the labour shambles that own us but just want to run away at 1st sign of trouble

or the person delivering your mail who will lose 20% of his/her wages in the vain hope it will help but knows it probably mean he/she is just £60 short next week

not saying any views are wrong but just adding some facts so you can decide

the “we” is me, 18 years of service and still think we are a service and that is how I approach my job

I will strike on Friday as my union has protected my rights for last 18 years on a national and personnel level

Excuse any spelling mistakes, late and was off to bed when saw this thread
