I didn't want to get involved with this discussion but will take the oportunity to get a word in edgeways.
History has an unfortunate habit of repeating itself. The British National Party is small, it is ridiculed for a variety of extremist views which are attractive to a minority of supporters. Maybe there are larger numbers who object to immigration. Others might not Jews or Catholics, Muslims, The Church of Latter Day Saints any other religious group who might be seen to be different.
I am British, actually Welsh, but I am proud to call myself British. I think we live in the best country in the World, eventhough we are not perfect as a people and have done some pretty awful things over many hundreds of years.
My point is that I am not a Nationalist. I do not like the idea of Nationalism, be it Welsh, Scottish, Irish and certainly not British Nationalism.
I began by saying that History repeats itself.
In 1933, the National Socialist German Workers Party won an overwhelming victory in a democratically organised election. Ten years before the Nazi Party had been a patheically small bunch of nobodies. Germany had been suffering a depression since the end of WW1. Resession, inflation, inadequate government and general public unrest. Corruption was rife. Does this sound familiar?
Adolf Hitler was ridiculed, even locked up, giving him time to write a book. He received support and finance from well meaning Germans who thought he had the answers to their problems.
Hence the election of 1933.
Once in power with massive support, the Nazi Party did begin to solve problems. Unemployment was eredicated. Roads were built. Workers had holidays abroad for the first time. The peoples car was available to many. Everything in the garden was blooming. People were at last proud to be German. Fine if you were pure German. They should have read his book. Wonderful title, 'My Struggle'.
I could say the rest is history. Perhaps I could remind you that it was not the Jews that were persecuted. Criminals, that was ok. Mentally ill, that was ok too. Homosexuals, we could do without them. Catholics, not German, they look to the Pope in Rome. Romany, Gipsy types, they never wash, get rid of them. The list goes on and on. The cleaning up of the German Race started as soon as the Nazi Party gained power. That sounds familiar too. Nick Griffin said as much. No, he is not a Nazi but he is a Nationalist. We should remember that.
You might think to vote for the BNP because they might solve a particular problem. The real problem is that you end up with the whole package. Something else to remember before you put your X in the box.
