The whole thread of this discussion seems to have been changed around, it`s like arguing eggs are bacon.

How on EARTH can you go back 43 years to the Geoff Hurst effort that bounced down from the crossbar? Hurst didn`t cheat, he didn`t juggle the ball on his hand like a bloody Harlem Globetrotter. It still hasn`t been conclusively proved even today as to whether the ball did or didn`t cross the line, and technology simply didn`t exist like today (ie cameras in all angles), the referee didn`t see it, he did the correct thing, went to his linesman (who, on the day, had the best view of ALL) and he insisted it HAD crossed the line and was a goal, so the referee gave the goal. The fourth one, prompting the immortal line from Kenneth Wolstenholme was, effectively, immaterial.......maybe, if fans were on the pitch it could have been disallowed, although it would have made no difference to the result anyway, being the last kick of the match.

Twenty years later, I recall Maradona being roundly condemned for his actions Worldwide, but the difference is for me, while I wouldn`t for one moment have expected Maradona to admit his actions, or indeed his Argentinian fans and team mates to condemn his actions........I actually thought rather more of Thiery Henry, and his fans and ex team mates DID condemn his actions
