David.... none of us would disagree we should be simplifying the system (less variation more CONSISTENT application of limits when comparing two identical areas!).

The one the REALLY gets me cross is when I am TRYING do drive at the legal speed limit in a built-up area that does NOT have sufficient 'repeater' signs to make that POSSIBLE! I am endlessly driving at 30mph in 40 and 50 limit areas simply becasue I am concerned that I MAY have missed a 30mph sign and can no longer CHECK it!

I'd go so far as RAISING the speed limits in SOME areas and even raising the VALUE of the limit..... so long as we can be CERTAIN that the maximum IS enforced! I don't even mind the concept of VARIABLE limits other than the SPECTACULAR costs of such variable limits (you wouldn't BELIEVE the costs of the variable limit on the M25....).

So... with what position of mine ARE you disagreeing?
