Rene's headline sensationalism statement is probably where he is coming from as the phrases 'man dies' and 'Kart' in the same line will always be the influence on the public perception of karting. When bad things happen they get reported. Unfortunately this is not always the case when good thins happen for example I was on the Race Rescue team at a motorcycle event a few years ago at a race meeting when a sidecar passenger fell off the bike ending up motionless on the circuit just 200 yards from our position. The race was red flagged and we were scrambled to the scene. Upon arival our Paramedic and Doctor managed to save save the guy and we did a Blue Light run to A&E where he made a full recovery. The guy had had a massive heart attack and fallen off the bike and our doctor said to us that had we not been in a position to attend him within 60 seconds he probably wold not have survived, indeed the doctor even stated that even if he had suffered the attack in the hospital car park he probably would not have survived so in this case the fact that he was a Motor Cycle Racer probably saved his life.
Unfortunately there were no News headlines saying 'Motor Cycle Racer Lives' but had he not been fortunate enough to suffer his attack when and where he did there would alnost certainly been a news report saying 'Motor Cycle Racer Dies'
