The original post states "....and only gives you the options of starting windows normally, in safe mode, or with command prompt".
He doesn't say that it won't start Windows, just that there is a corrupt file.
Surely, he could start in 'Safe Mode' to retrieve the important data, or is this too simplistic a view?
Obviously, if the system will not continue, after selecting one of the available options, then the good advice already proffered should be carried out.
