Itpro,

If your point were wholly true (and it largely is) then you would have no issue using the term "Nigger" as it is being used in the context of a rational argument about racism. Quite clearly (as I believe Bod is trying to state), there does come a time, rightly or wrongly, where a word does become offensive in and of itself.

Having said that, society has confused racism (and all the other ism's) with the supposed right not to be offended. People do not have the right not to be offended. If I want to call you a fat, bald old man (your words I belive) then so be it. You shouldn't judge someones words or actions based on whether they cause offense but rather, whether any reasonable person would assume they were intended to do so.
