...Speed being the main one on the public roads. It is not the single factor that causes death but when combined with others, speed increases the chances IN A CERTAIN INCIDENT.
Speed away from the incident, of course you won't die. Crash in a specially constructed multi million pound race car, your chances are quite good.
Drive down the road like a looney in your corsa, you are much more likely to be involved in a crash, and when you do, much more likely to be killed, than someone driving normally.
You don't have to be exceeding the speed limit to be speeding either. Driving too fast for the conditions, ice, snow etc, you could be below the speed limit but still be guilty of Reckless or Careless driving.

So SPEED CAN KILL given a certain set of circumstances. End of story!
