How can it be erroneous to measure it when you said he was so far behind him? We are measuring the time he was behind him. They had both stopped once so all was equal. Ok there was 7 laps between stops but that's not the point.

Saying Button screwed up to lose the race is totally different. Button had only stopped twice with Vettel and Webber having stopped 3 times. Button was actually behind Vettel when he stopped only to lose the race by 9 secs (pretty much the same time he was behind Vettel after 3 laps). This was very good considering the starting position and 4 secs longer in the pits for a new wing.

The safety car didn't really help Button that much seeing as he was 20 secs behind the leader at the time and then the field spread after the re start knocked him back to over 16 secs anyway. You might say what he lost in the pits was gained by the safety car but that's all.
