What I meant was it might be erroneous to compare just the race itself to other events, presuming that the riders prepare for the TT by doing lots of practice either on the island or elsewhere during the year. Perhaps they don't - maybe that's the problem!
I'm afraid I am always very careful and sceptical about stats - lies and damned lies etc.
Do you think that the riders have a right to go out and injure/kill themselves if they choose to, or is that tempered by the Media profile of the TT races? It is a unique spectacle in bike racing, a bit like the Grand National in horse racing or the Czech equivalent, the Pardubice where horses jump over brick walls, boundary fences and worse.
