This is the strange thing with 'people's logic' on this. Yes, each of the drivers was close to being killed. As they ALL are EVERY time they take out their F1 cars.
Grosjean DID make a stupid error and it's NOT his first, there's no argument about that. However, when he MADE that error, he had no way of knowing that the error would place one car within inches of Alonso's head. Similiarly, Michael's APPALLING driving (into the pits) had EXACTLY the same chance of placing a car within inches of someone's head.
Grosjean's mistake could, just as easily, have just left one punctured tyre. It's just that ALL punishments seem to be based on the RESULT of the 'mistake', and NOT what it should be based upon: the fact that the driver MADE the mistake.
The OUTCOME of the accident is in NO-ONE's control whereas the MAKING the MISTAKE actually IS under someone's control and it should be THIS that's punished!
I am arguing that Grosjean should be punished for making the MISTAKE, not the fact that the car only JUST missed Alonso! Michael's HOWLER was FAR more deliberate and INTENTIONAL and that SHOULD be taken into account! I am not just saying this because it's Michael. For me, punishment should be based on the FAULT, not the random-ness of the outcome. We have seen at least 5 start-line to first-corner shunts this year and ONLY this one is being punished and that's only because the car got close to Alonso's head!
