That regional breakdown of net contributors to recipients is probably quite similar within a region like the present-day UK as well: an argument for the English to take the initiative and pull out of the UK? Or for London and the Home Counties to separate? As the Swiss are beginning to discover, a small enclave of (financial market-based) wealth is not a status that can be forever maintained. The wealth gap is no less wide within the United States of America, and they’re about to pool their market with that of a future United States of Europe. Good luck England, or whatever sub-divide of the UK.
