Hi Brian,

I look at the news section but only read items that appear to have an interest. If you look at some of the threads in other sections there have been comments about the change to the upper age limit for Juniors starting for next year. Some parents had not read about those changes even though it affected them.

Yes, there are so many charities competing for our cash. Over the last few months two teachers at my lad's school were raising money for charities - one doing a couple of marathons and the other doing a long distance cycle ride. Then there have been people in the village doing the `race for life'.

Is it because you do not know the person? This will be one reason, especially when you have requests from people you do know or have some link with through school or community.

Diabetes research is a worthy cause but many may feel that diabetes is not such a problem as cancer or other life threatening illnesses such as MND. Unless you or a close contact has diabetes, then you may well be unaware of the differences between type 1 and type 2 - it also appears that both can be controlled with diet, exercise and insulin injections.

I tend not to donate when a significant part of the funds raised look as if they will pay for the fund raising activity. Why is it necessary to climb Mount Kilimanjaro rather than climb Snowden 3 times in one day (or someting similar?).

Others may feel differently but I prefer to donate directly to charities or support people where all the funds raised go to the charity rather than first cover the costs of participating. If you son is paying for the trip and then using it as a fund raiser then that needs tro be made clear.

Maybe the karting community would be more supportive if he were doing a solo drive in a 24 hour endurance kart race.

In summary - just so much competition for our donations that you are unlikely to attract much interest from outside your own circle unless there is a very strong `heart tear' reason.

Best of luck with your efforts.

Richard
