You are indeed correct with that rule Ian.

I don't think there is actually an offence of 'undertaking' on the statute, is there?

It's classed as careless or if you do it like I do it, dangerous.

The copper was an idiot, but what's new there.

I get sick and tired of lane hoggers and I just overtake on the inside as our LWB van and trailer is as long as an artic and I'm not supposed to use the outside lane but I do use it when I have little choice.

I've traveled nine miles with the nearside lane clear and everybody else hogging the other two or three lanes.

I do signal when I 'undertake', I got the signal from Vettel after he wins a race :)
