Looking at the way f1 has been in a while what ideas could make it more exciting and relevant?

Surely opening up the engine regs instead of specifying the type and nature of the engine could be an interesting variable. Maybe just say 100kg of fuel for the race. If you want a 1.5 turbo v4 fine but if you fancy a 3l v12 fine also as long as you can manage the fuel during a race. Surely that would lead to relevant improvements for road cars?

Also how about fixing the gearbox ratios for a driver at the start of the season. That way someone might have something more suited to monaco than monza and might shake up the pack for some races.

Anyone else got any ideas?
