I think you've got it wrong about Mrs Merkel. She is just protecting German tax payers interest by insisting Greece runs a balanced budget, rather than continue to borrow money off them to pay for civil service wages and pensions. Not at all unreasonable.

Equating modern day Germany to Nazi Germany is very unfair.

Isn't it the US government and their paymasters who have adopted the "rule the world" Nazi mantle and undemocratic behaviours! Think about it!

The IMF today are making the point that in three years time the Greek debt will have increased by another 70 or 80 billion and all that money will have been used for is to pay interest on the existing debt. Not one penny of the money offered by Europe is designed to help Greece get out of the mess it's in. i.e. by stimulating the economy or helping them to produce something that can be exported to earn money.

This deal is just a classic European head in the sand exercise but nothing new there.

One of the main purposes of the IMF is to help countries solve their debt problems and clearly this deal does not for Greece and that's why they are not supporting it.

Whilst at a county level we can all be disgusted that Greece has got itself into this position I don't believe it's fair to blame the ordinary person in Greece.

They are in this position because:
1) Their politicians have been corrupt
2) It's lenders have been reckless and corrupt (not hard to believe)

And before we are too hard on Greece, the other country in Europe which has been running a similar budget deficit (for the past 7 years) and a similar govt spend as a % of GDP is none other than the UK. Yes our debt will soon be 200% of GDP.

Today the focus is Greece. Tomorrow if UK doesn't toe the paymasters line (which it shows no sign of doing) it will be us.
