Just a word of warning about youngsters planning to go on parents insurance - if you are anamed additional driver on a policy but in reality are the main driver of the car then this may invalidate any claim as it is known as "fronting" and is illegal. . My advice is to get very careful advice - we have been looking at this very hard for our eldest who has just started driving - fortunately our company car policy does cover him so he can drive it but that won't build up any no claims bonus for when he does have his own car.
Boys are penalised more than girls when needing their first motor insurance , because, as someone has already mentioned, the accident staistics for young men don't lie .
