The earths total land area is roughly 100,000,000 sq miles, of which it is estimated that only 30% is habitable, the rest being ice covered/mountainous/lacking top soil etc. If we assume the current population is about 6 billion, then that equates to each person currently having a patch of land 110m x 110m. Thats a lot less than I was expecting to find, so please check my figures/calcs. If I'm right, though, I reckon the population could quadruple before meltdown. Unless we can find a way of increasing the useable land mass.
