They banned "active" traction control, i.e. comparing wheel rpm to road speed and cutting the power when wheelspin was detected. But in order not to be at the mercy of their drivers abilities, they substituted a form of engine management traction control which prevent the engine from accelerating faster than is possible without wheelspin being present, taking into account the gear selected, and the grip levels at that roadspeed.
