Martin Whitmarsh said it's either a rim failure or a tyre puncture but was pretty certain it wasn't a tyre wear problem.

Just one of those things that happens in racing. If you want a more serious story though then I'd place a bet on a local spaniard shooting the tyre with a sniper rifle as they hate Lewis and it allowed Alonso to move up to second : )
