Pure/true sine wave inverters are available, but are more expensive. The cheaper ones are the modified sine wave type. We started with a cheaper 'modified' type but threw it away when it caused our transponder to overcharge and fried it. Have been using a 2kw true sine wave inverter for the last two years with no issues running TV, sky box, dvd, laptops etc, and charging transponder, phones etc.
