Finally it seems that the electric car is here, have a look at this

and this one:

Now I don't think there can be any arguments with that, over time the technology will get better at an alarming pace much like the pace of the development of mobile phones so it's here to stay. So if the technology is here to stay then can the same happen in karting?

My first thought is that the racing would be much quieter. At the moment the way it is if somebody bashes into you, you can scream at them anything you like and nobody can hear you (I'm sure we have all been there : ) ) but with it being quieter we would have to learn to bite our tongues and I can't quite see that happening so that would produce some interesting situations in the heat of the moment.

If the karts are quieter though then we wouldn't have any concerns about noise pollution, indeed a local football match would be much noisier.

One major issue I would have with it would be the motor. Would they be as equal to each other as the petrol equivalents that we have got today? One thing seems certain is that we wouldn't be rebuilding them every 4 hours, they could probably do a 1,000 hours without a drop in performance but how long would the battery last before a drop in performance?

I think there are plus points with electric karts but I also think there are minus points aswell. Some things will not be the same, such as that nice smell of 2 stroke in the air, things wouldn't be the same without it.

Would electric karts be better or worse? We have certainly got some interesting years ahead.

By the way if you thought that the performance would be worse then think again, look at this clip:
