There is a curious crowd mentality though. Spectators will do the most stupid things, like try to touch cars travelling at upwards of 100 mph, and justify it by saying that 'the authorities wouldn't permit it if it was dangerous'.

However, the problem is that all the drivers have to refuse, otherwise you are simply replaced by someone willing to do it, but who by definition* is less skilful than you.
* Otherwise he would be driving, not you.
