"And whilst public services are being annihilated, people on.welfare being crippled, taxes on pasties, grannies, petrol duty going soaring, what do Cameron and co do? Write a £40,000E cheque a year to anyone registered a millionaire. Which incidentally includes quite a number of Tory front benchers."

Grannie tax? When you turn 65 you stop paying National Insurance (if you continue working) and get an addition tax allowance £10,500 against £8105 for everyone under 65 but if you have an incomes of over £25k then you lose £1 of the extra allownace for every £2 of income so by the time your income hits £30k you have lost that extra allowance. Under the coalition everyone will now get a personal allowance of £10k from 2014 and you only start to lose that when your income is over £100k - all that has happened is that the grannies will not get a bigger personal allownace than all those working on low pay.

Petrol duty soaring? Yes - they used to increase it in the budget every year but people noticed that so LABOUR introduced an automatic annual increase of above inflation.

Who scrapped the 10% tax rate? Gordon Brown!

Why did it take Labour almost 14 years to decide that the rich should pay more tax? The 50% tax rate was only introduiced when they expected to lose the next election. They knew it would cost more to collect than it would generate but gave them the opportunity to accuse the Tories of helping the rich when they scrapped it. Have you not noticed that not a single senior Labour member will promise to bring it back?
