Another Alfano problem

After 4 wet meetings my sons A pro refused to register a lap time on sunday. Removed and cleaned cable joints and all started working well. However during the last heat and final the max recorded rpm figiures started getting silly.
14500, 15500 highest got to 16800, with a comer w60 that is simply not happening. Is the pick up cable the likely problem or the unit itself?

any help appreciated
