Not sure there will be an agreed definitive answer for this question.
I have used super and regular and have not seen any difference. It was mainly dads who said Super but the engine builders said regular was best as the W60 does not work well with higher octane levels (it is little more than a mower engine after all).
The guy who runs my lad just wants me to avoid Shell because he has had most problems in the past with that. He also suggested buying my fuel from a busy petrol station as the higher turnover is more likely to keep storage tanks full and keep it free of water. The special filters you can now buy (Mr Muscle etc) are great for taking out water.
What we have found is that with the Tryton carb you have to be much more careful about filtration. The ideal seems to be one for a fuel injection petrol engine - pick one up from any Halfords type store and fit it into syringe pump. We use this and the Mr Muscle to transfer fuel from the jerry can to a mixing jug - then mix in the oil and use the syringe/filter to pump it into the tank.
Plastic cans are supposed to be better than metal ones especially in the colder months - September through July! Thee plastic cans are less likely to get condensation (water) overnight - same reason a lot of transport companies like to fill their diesel tanks at the end of the day.
Apart from that there are no doubt all sorts of other theories. I have been advised to leave a can of Atol open for a couple of weeks as this improves it whilst others will only use fuel that the have bought a day or two before a race. Some people will keep their fuel from one race to the next even if they are a month apart whilst others will throw it away or use it in their genny and insist on fresh.
