the double spring has a very small spring inside the main one and makes it a bit stronger. I believe the theory is that it pushes up on the paddle to close it as the paddle can move out of alignment if you go over a kerb and get a bash at the wrong time (is there a right time?). Probably one of the engine builders can explain this better (or accurately).
With the paddles you can bend them very slightly to make them a tighter fit. Again, Grant would explain this better but the two prongs can be opened slightly and something on top of the paddle.
Sorry to be a bit vague about exactly how this works but I have someone who does all the work on the kart as I am pretty useless with spanners etc.
Your engine builder should be able to give you more information - especially if you use John Davis as he was the guy I watched alter the paddle.
The background to this is that grant told me what to do and I was trying to explain it to martin James, who looks after our kart. John was passing and suggested it would be easier for martin if he showed him what I was trying to explain - nice guy.
