is an oxygen provide in combustion. When used in mixture with fuel it enables more fuel per stroke to be burnt. However Nitro is not soluable in petrol but most usually in methanol. A nitro/methanol mixture combusted has a distinctive smell and eye-watering effect as my dear departed fathers vintage hillclimb car often gave me. If you have run a glow plug engined RC car you will be familiar with this smell. It appears from QOT reply that acetone mixed with petrol will permit nitro methane to mix with petrol. I have not heard this one before as the vintage racing/hillclimb boys are pretty free to use what they like. This mixture would stink to high heaven and no way would be not smelt even before combustion.
Anyone know how to dissolve Hydrogen peroxide in petrol as water and oil do not mix?
There is probably other chemicals that oxygenate petrol but I do not know of them. Probably very expensive and have a distinctive smell.
Methanol burns at a lower temperature and as nearly twice as much is required cools the innards of an engine. Also methanol engines usually have much lower compression ratio. 6:1 as opposed to 11:0 for a double knocker Norton.
Motor benzol was used by the vintage boys. Similar thing to methanol, keeps the motor cooler, but a very distinctive smell/eye watering. There was a can in the garage that dates back to the mid 1960's. I expect that is a bit past it's best now.
