Hi Aztech,

What you buy all depends on how big you want to go with the screen.

The general rule of thumb is anything 50inch and over would require a Plasma, otherwise stick to LCD screens for anything smaller. I can explain the science if you like but it's very long winded.

Yes the pixel problem is still very much apparent, especially in faster moving images, fire, water, etc.
For this reason CRT is still a better technology because the colours are blended by the rays, whereas plasma/LCD use single pixels to create a block image. However, they've got a lot better.

The only reason CRT's have disappeared is purely a cost cutting method.

Different brands only tend to differ in the quality and detailing of the circuitry and sound system supplied. This is why you pay more for a Sony or Pioneer, they pay alot of attention to this area.

The reason for all this is due to one particular manufacturer producing the screen matrix for nearly all the other companies. Again cost cutting.

Just stay away from those cheap units you see in the supermarkets, unless you're gonna stick it in the kids room or something.

If you're happy to spend up to £1000, I would suggest the current Samsung range of HD Plasma's. It's the same screen matrix as the Sony & Sharp screens but it'll cost you inch for inch a lot less.

LG make some great LCD screens at the moment with very rich colour palattes, cost effective too.

RGBdirect.co.uk are a good place to go, they deliver for the price too.

Remember, before you splash your cash on a great new Screen, is your image supply up to scratch.

That's why the sceens look so poor in the retail outlets and the pubs. Good cables, good connectors & correct installation make a massive difference as does your choice of providers, i.e. Sky, terrestial or Digi box...

Any more questions, please ask!
