from the point of view of a son who has retired and then came back.

Yes, he is probably at the point where he feels left out of things because he is karting so can't be out til silly o'clock on a saturday night.
He gets into school on monday and everyone is talking about the party he missed and nobody wants to listen about karting anymore.

He will go out, chase girls and then hopefully a chance encounter with a day at a corporate karting place (for me it was an open GP at Daytona Manchester - fantastic facility for anyone who hasnt been) where the bug will come back.

If he is blessed as I was at being utterly useless trying to pull girls (or guys, such is the modern world) then he will be back
