Again from my understanding, and it may be wrong so don't shoot the messenger, the original specification said there should be a gap of 27cm between the bumper and the front of the bar but no-one thought to include the side of the bar in that specified gap dimensions. If you look at the gap between the side of the bar and the bumper on an M6 Tony or even an M4 it's really close, and if the fairing deforms it soon hits the bumper rail. So a nice soft material, let it flex, hey presto a reduced chance of the fairing falling off the clamps.
We've been running FP7 bodywork this year which has absolutely no clearance issues, but we fall foul of the new maximum bar length rule. Which is a shame.
