Lakeside Karting - Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 3 - 28th June 2003 - Lakeside Kart Circuit

All teams I’m sure were pleased to see clear skies on arrival with not a threat of the wet stuff after the late race shower at the 2nd round. Qualifying went the way of FAB Kartsport with J&G Racing just a tenth behind and Teamworks Karting rounding out the top 3. Teamtec 4th & Clubman pole went to BDC Sports with a commendable 5th overall.

Rolling race start with the tension building following 2 laps behind the pace Thunderkart courteously provided by Cliff @ TeamTec. FAB maintained their advantage tearing off with J&G caught napping by Teamworks. Did they prove too keen in chasing FAB though, we shall see! BDC were an unfortunate opening lap casualty returning to the pits with very rearranged front bodywork. Nothing that a bit of tape couldn’t fix though. The pursuit was on and Teamworks had soon wrestled the lead from FAB & began to open a small advantage. J&G next up with TeamTec hanging on gallantly in 4th & Westco1 in 5th. On the 15 min mark J&G threw a chain; their attempts at winning effectively over without major mishaps to the front-runners. The lead for Clubman was fierce for a couple of laps with GT Motors, NF Racing & CDL Racing all vying for honours. The only major incident of the race came with 35 mins gone involving 4 karts at Bridge corner. Immediate retirement for GT with a bent chassis & Lynx suffering thereon with clutch & chain problems. Around this time NF started suffering with brake problems forcing an extended return to the pits for a solution. Teamworks we’re black flagged at the 40-minute mark for their jumped start rejoining in the lead mere seconds ahead of FAB.

At 90 mins FAB had caught and passed Teamworks with TeamTec now 2 laps down in 3rd following their fuel stop & J&G in 4th & now on the same lap. Westco1 had jumped ahead of leading Clubman team CDL to round out the 5. 2nd & 3rd Clubman now BDC & Team Banner respectively. NF had briefly caught them but a lost wheel at Bridge leaving them stranded on circuit. An incident involving TeamTec caused FAB to be black-flagged 15 mins later but a healthy lead meant they retained the no.1 position. Five minutes later saw the retirement of a very 2nd hand looking BDC kart finally succumbing to sheared wheel bolts.

The final hour was pretty much stalemate all round. FAB still lead, Teamworks, TeamTec & J&G nose to tail on circuit but laps separating them. FAB made a late stop with 30 mins remaining allowing Teamworks back onto the lead lap but a relatively easy cruise to take the win despite just 30 seconds separating them at the finish. TeamTec 2 laps down took 3rd & J&G having clawed a lap in 4th. Westco1 rounded out the top 5. Clubman went the way of the CDL boys after a very consistent trouble free run. Team Banner nursed their ailing machine to 2nd and NF in 3rd with a fine final stint despite the earlier setbacks.
