Lakeside Karting - Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 4 - 26th July 2003 - Lakeside Kart Circuit

Well the day started bright enough with just the threat of a light shower. Could the forecaster have got it more wrong? Fifteen teams I’m sure would have liked to have a quiet word about the accuracy of that report! The boss is impressed at the record day for wetsuit sales.

Fifteen minutes of qualifying went the way of TeamTec, the only team in the 42’s with Teamworks alongside. Second row made up of Westco 1 & FAB. Third row a good effort for LK new boys, Stormy Normans with first Clubman team BDC Sports alongside. CDL & SR 2nd/3rd in Clubman respectively. Some debate at the end of the session concerning tyre choice for the race; one hour in, there was no choice.

Damp start, worse to follow!

Rolling 2 laps warm-up prior to race start with TeamTec controlling the field. Tidy start with TeamTec opening out a small advantage from Teamworks, FAB & Westco 1. TeamTec looked to be comfortable out front but within 15 minutes Teamworks had caught and passed them with FAB doing the same shortly after. Appeared to be a slow puncture that would plague them for the rest of the race as their lap times fell away. At the half hour mark Teamworks led FAB by 11 seconds with TeamTec hanging on 2 seconds further back. Westco 1 a lap down after an early spin in 4th with Stormy Normans just 6 seconds back in 5th. Cooch Assoc rounded out the top 6 approx half a lap down on the Normans. Clubman lead by BDC Sports having overtaken all other Clubman teams; an amazing start from the back row of the grid (relegated due to qualifying times being disallowed due to being underweight). SR Racing (Steve on his own!) 12 seconds back with NF Racing a lap down on these two in 3rd. A dry line was actually emerging at this point with some teams seeking every puddle they could in an effort to avoid cooking their tyres.

The hour passed with Teamworks comfortable out front having stretched their lead to 26 seconds from FAB with Westco 1 a solitary lap down in 3rd but a lap up on Stormy Normans in 4th and Cooch in 5th on the same lap. TeamTec succumbed to tyre problems now with a lengthy stop dropping them to 6th. BDC Sports still at the head of Clubman 2 laps up on SR Racing with NF Racing in 3rd just 32 seconds back; going well at this point after a disastrous qualifying not managing to record a single lap. New teams PBG & LBR both experiencing problems unfortunately dropping to the tale end of the field.

At the halfway point Teamworks still lead with Dale recording fastest lap of the meet of 42.001 and now a lap up on FAB in 2nd. Westco 1 still 3rd and a lap back with Normans & Cooch still on the same lap & separated by just 18 seconds. TeamTec soldiering on a lap back in 6th. Two laps further back we find lead Clubman BDC Sports with a 3 lap advantage over CDL Racing having leapfrogged to 2nd 36 seconds up on SR Racing in 3rd. NF Racing slip out of the equation with a recurrence of earlier brake problems.

Teamworks retain their lap advantage over FAB at 2 hours who in turn are 2 laps up on Westco 1. Stormy Normans in 4th finally put a lap on Cooch. BDC still lead Clubman in a very respectable 6th overall with TeamTec in 7th after another lengthy stop. CDL Racing still running a comfortable 2nd in Clubman 3 laps up on SR Racing in 3rd. With 30 mins to run the heavens have well & truly opened causing Teamworks to drop to one engine, losing 2 laps & their lead to the consistently quick FAB. Tough luck but that’s racing. BDC still retain their Clubman lead but now only a lap up on SR Racing.

FAB cross the line 1st at the end of possibly the wettest Prokart race in history, Teamworks 2nd & Westco 1 3rd. Stormy Normans with a storming finish just 9 seconds back in 4th & Cooch 5th. BDC slip up in the last half hour allowing SR racing to romp home by 5 laps in Clubman with CDL in 3rd.
