Lakeside Karting - Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 7 - 22nd November 2003 - Lakeside Kart Circuit

Penultimate round of the championship & lovely weather for it! No worries about wearing YDK’s out, as I don’t believe we saw a dry line all night. Slim grid as a number of teams made an assumption regarding dates; dangerous business that but I will endeavour to contact all teams in advance in future – please let me have your e-mail addresses.

Qualifying had not surprisingly Champs leaders FAB setting the initial pace with their closest rivals TeamTec 3/10ths back. Then at the end of the session possibly the biggest surprise of the year as Mick from GT Motors pipped FAB by a couple of hundreths to stick his Clubman team on pole! Fantastic achievement considering it’s the 1st time Mick’s ever raced on wets. Well done Sir. Westco 1 on their new Eglem 3rd & Teamworks on their 7Kart manage 4th pushing TeamTec out to 5th. Just 3/10ths covered the top 5.

Unfortunately FAB weren’t able to take their front row grid slot which left GT Motors controlling the pace & quite comfortably so in the opening laps. Leigh for TeamTec pushing hard from the off passed Westco 1 and Teamworks & on to the back of GT forcing them into a half spin at hairpin 2. FAB’s woes continue, as they have to return to the pits for bodywork repairs. So, at the 30 min mark TeamTec led Teamworks by 11 secs and 1st Clubman GT Motors in 3rd, 16 secs back. NF Racing & CDL Karting 2nd & 3rd respectively in Clubman.

One hour mark came & went with the rain still hammering down combined with the darkness made for difficult racing conditions. J+G the first & only casualty as a motor succumbs to the deluge. TeamTec comfortable out front now with a 1 lap cushion back to Teamworks in turn a lap up on Westco 1 now 3rd. FAB on a mission now moving to 7th but 7 laps down on the leaders.

At the 2-hr mark TeamTec maintain their one lap cushion but a real battle on for 2nd between Teamworks & Westco 1 swapping positions regularly in traffic; very little between them in pace & looking as though fuel stops could determine the outcome. GT Motors in 4th & a massive 14 lap lead back to CDL in Clubman. FAB now running 5th having clawed back a couple of laps.

Half hour left & TeamTec still out front experiencing relatively few difficulties. Westco1 keeping them honest just a lap back with a similar advantage now over Teamworks. GT Motors 4th with FAB getting ever closer now just a lap back in 5th.

The final 30 minute run to the flag & major dramas as first FAB run out of fuel & then Teamworks. FAB manage to get away relatively unscathed but Teamworks suffer as they struggle to get a motor to fire. TeamTec score a fine win & the gap back to FAB in 4th puts them 3 points ahead in the series with one round to go. Westco 1 in a very fine 2nd just a lap off the Winners. GT Motors in a fantastic 3rd & really mixing it with the Expert teams now. CDL 2nd which puts them in the lead in Clubman Champs & NF Racing 3rd.

Final round Sunday 14th December; both Expert & Clubman Championships still to be decided & look out for the film crew from Channel 4! Gates open 7:30am.
