The 2005 Pro Kart Endurance Championship

The 2005 Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 7 - 7th August 2005 - Milton Keynes

Round 7 was a pinnacle point in the championship. The fight for the overall lead and the class honours is only split by just a few points and results of this round would surely bring to light the front runners for the championship, with just two further rounds to go.

Autotekk took the pole from Lucas Racing with Baron and So-Co making up the second row. Pogue Mahone were the fastest pro-class team, qualifying in a creditable 5th, whilst JP Racing were the quickest of the clubman class, qualifying in an unprecedented 9th place.

After a first corner incident, So-Co took up the lead followed by Lucas Racing and Autotekk, with Pogue Mahone splitting the remaining super-pro teams of Baron, DXI-Sin and Kartoon. Autotekk then took up the running from So-Co and Lucas with 45 minutes gone and these three had pulled out a 20 second gap from the ensuing pack.

The list of casualties had started to build with Cannonball Run, VKR, DXI-Wild and Spectrum all encountering lengthy pit stops and front runners Kartoon were shortly to join that list with problems that would eventually force their retirement.

With the first fuel stop completed, Autotekk were 8 seconds clear of So-Co, who were in turn nearly a lap clear of Lucas, Baron, DXI-Sin and top pro-class runner Pogue Mahone. PDQ led the clubman class from Roadrunner, JP and Westco, all of whom were now in the top third of the field.

With the half way point now behind them, it was So-Co who took up the lead from Autotekk and these two were steadily pulling away from the rest of the field. The gap between first and second was progressively increasing and with less than 2 hours to go, So-Co’s lead was now up to 15 seconds. The gap to the 3rd place battle between Baron and Lucas had now increased to 50 seconds, with DXI-Sin a further 40 seconds a drift.

Pogue Mahone were still leading the pro-class, with the clubman class leaders PDQ, immediately behind them in an outstanding 7th place. Roadrunner Racing, Team BAR and Teamtec were also putting in strong performances in 8th, 9th and 10th places respectively.

With all the fuel stops completed it was a dash to the flag with So-Co now some 33 seconds clear of Autotekk in 2nd place. Lucas racing were in a safe 3rd with Baron and DXI-Sin still squabbling over 4th place, with Pogue Mahone now coming under pressure from Team BAR and PDQ.

With the chequered flag in sight, So-Co cruised home to take their first victory of the season, leaving championship contenders Autotekk and Lucas Racing to pick the minor places. Pogue Mahone took the pro-class honours and PDQ finished as the top clubman team, leaving the championship table as tight as ever with just two rounds to go.
