GYG Pro-Kart Endurance Championship
Round 1 - Glan y Gors Park - 19th February 2006

The first round of the GYG Pro-Kart Endurance Championship started earlier in the year than usual on 19th February 2006, risking a clash with possible blizzard snow conditions on the Welsh hills, but although cold the sun was bright for the 18 teams of the 160 Class.

GKD 66 the 2005 Champions was one of the starters ready to defend their Championship Trophy. It was going to be a very competitive 4 hour endurance race, as some new and previous home teams at the circuit were testing it out for the MSA Pro Kart Championship Round in March.

Qualifying results put MS Lucas on pole, followed by Premier Ink, Pro Gem and RPS Racing.

There were a few spinners on the rolling lap, but after order was redeemed for the start, more spinners on the spoon meant the front runners MS Lucas, Premier Ink, Staffs Bulls and Pro Gem were able to claim a gap, splitting the field. MS Lucas appeared to be a dominating force for the first 1 hour 15 minutes maintaining first position and a 15 second lead, until engine problems forced a pit stop and down to 14th position, from which they did not recover. From this point Premier Ink and Staffs Bulls were left to battle at the front staying in first or second position throughout the race, with GKD 66 and Datum Racing not far behind, exchanging third and fourth positions. The Pro Gem Team who had a front runner start and gained up to second place suffered after 1 ½ hours and were to find themselves down in 11th and were only able to claw themselves back to 9th. Mizzi Racing worked their way up from the middle of the pack during the race and maintained a steady 6th position from the half way mark and RPS Racing commanded a steady 5th place.

The last hour was tight with the top four, Premier Ink, Staffs Bulls, GKD 66 and Datum on the same lap, giving the two observers plenty to watch and setting the scene for a close and exciting finish, especially when some last minute pit stops came into play, causing a few changes of positions. Premier Ink was to take the victory, followed closely by Staffs Bulls and then GKD 66 and Datum one lap down on the two leaders.

Round 1 Pro-Kart 160 Class:

1st – 54 - PREMIER INK (278 laps) Fastest Lap (50.10)
2nd – 111 - STAFFS BULLS (278 laps) Fastest Lap (50.32)
3rd – 66 - GKD 66 (277 laps) Fastest Lap (50.58)

GYG is looking forward to the PRO-KART Endurance Challenge Championship 2006 which is over 9 rounds for Pro Kart 200 & 160 Classes, starting on the 5th March 2006 and wishes all the Teams a successful and fun year.
