UK Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 6 - 25th June 2006 - Milton Keynes

Despite a dubious weather forecast, the day stayed warm and dry, with the race itself proving to be one of the most challenging events for both competitors and organisers alike.

Qualifying saw Baron Racing taking the pole from AJB1, with Team Alpha and Staff Bulls making up the second row.

After a clean start, Baron took their place at the front of the train, with Team X moving quickly up into second, followed by AJB1, Alpha, Autotekk and AJB2 making up the top six. After an hours racing, the top six remained unchanged and all was going well, until!!!. The writer and Clerk of the Course was taking a leisurely stroll on the infield of the track when, right next to him, the MWC Installations kart, clipped a tyre, somersaulted and caught fire with the driver still underneath. This immediately brought out the red flag and a halt to proceedings, fortunately there was no serious injury to the driver and the race was underway again in less than 15 minutes.

Restarting the karts, line astern in race order, had completely negated the lead that Baron Racing had established over AJB1 and the rest of the ensuing pack, and as the first fuel stops took place, it was Team X who emerged as race leaders.

Team X continued to lead Baron by just 4 seconds as the half way point of the race approached, with eight other karts all still on the lead lap. Baron were now closing Team X down, whilst Team Alpha and DXI-Sin were scrapping over 3rd place, some twenty seconds further down the track.

AJB2 were flying the pro-class honours in a creditable 5th place overall, with the recovered MWC Installations kart in close attendance, whilst Roadrunner and DXI-Wild, were duelling for the clubman class honours in 16th place.

Just as the second of the three mandatory fuel stops started to take place, another big accident happened, bringing proceedings to a halt once again. This time it involved the Grassroots kart, which had become involved with another competitor and ended upside down, the other side of the safety barrier. Despite some initial concerns, the driver was not seriously hurt and the race was underway again shortly.

With two-thirds race distance completed, Baron were back in the lead, with Team X latched on to their rear bumper, followed by Alpha, AJB2, DXI-Sin and Staff Bulls. Several of the leading teams then made their final fuel stop giving everyone a shot at the lead, but eventually, with an hour to go, it was Team X who regained the lead, from Alpha, DXI-Sin, AJB2, Baron and AJB1.

In the closing stages, Team X made a splash and dash stop and emerged in the lead, finding a good turn of speed to take them to the chequered flag. All four of the leading teams were still on the same lap, but DXI-Sin and Baron Racing, were now in front of Team Alpha and fighting it out for 2nd place. In the last few corners DXI-Sin, after some more than close racing managed to secure 2nd place from Baron Racing, who could very well argue that the two red flags, had robbed them of victory.
