UK Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 7 - 16th July 2006 - Rye House

Round 7 would be greatly influenced by the 30-degree temperatures and the relentless sunshine, which gave rise to dehydration and temperament problems for the drivers and an unprecedented amount of unwanted grip for the karts.

Pole went the way of Baron Racing from AJB1, with Team X and Autotekk making up the second row. Focus emerged top of the pile for the pro-class and DXI-Wild were the fastest clubman class qualifier, with the top 30 karts all within less than one second of each other.

After a clean start, it was AJB 1 who took up the lead from Baron, followed by Team X, Lucas, Alpha and Autotekk. After an hours racing, the top six super-pro teams were covered by just 17 seconds and interloping into the elite were Rouge Racing with a stunning first session in 4th place overall.

After the first of the three mandatory fuel stops, Baron emerged as front-runners from AJB 1, Team X, Lucas and Autotekk, with Focus now making up the top six. Team X then started to find some real pace and moved up to second place, hunting down the leaders 18-second advantage. At almost exactly half race distance, Team X were now on the rear bumper of Baron Racing and within a lap had taken the lead.

A red flag was then called when Roadrunner and Team Slick got tangled up on the second hairpin; unfortunately, Team Slick landed upside-down, resulting in a shoulder injury which brought a halt to proceedings for some time. On the restart, Team X led from Lucas Racing who had moved up into 2nd place, Alpha broke an axle and were forced to retire, Autotekk had a mechanical problem and dropped to 20th, Baron fuelled early leaving 3rd place AJB 1, followed by the pro-class teams of Frascati Racing and Teamtec, with Sonic Deaf Monkeys leading the clubman class in a creditable 7th place overall.

With an hour and a half to run, Team X led Lucas by nearly a lap with AJB 1 a further lap adrift and coming under pressure from Baron, who’s early pit stop at the beginning of the race, came into play and as a result they leapfrogged AJB 1 and Lucas for second place. As the last remaining teams, dived into the pits for their final fuel stops, the race to the flag was on with even some of the midfield places changing in the last 15 minutes.

Team X took the chequered flag from the battling Baron Racing and AJB 1, Whilst Lucas Racing had to settle for fourth. Fast finishing Teamtec took the pro-class win from Focus and Frascati and Sonic Deaf Monkeys, held on to the clubman win with their best finish of the season.

All to still play for in the Championship with no dominant teams appearing after 7 rounds and round 8 just three weeks away at Bayford Meadow.
