I have just finished doing the very same to a box trailer. Not a difficult job; I used Flexi Brackets from B&Q (these are the shelving brackets where you have a metal upright bolted to the wall and brackets that slot into the uprights).
I used 3 brackets per side; one directly under each wheel and one in the middle. I then used 12mm WBP plywood for the runners, and bolted it to the brackets.
All seems good so far. The beauty of this system is that the runners and brackets can quickly be removed, allowing the trailer to be used for other stuff (like collecting a sofa!). They are also adjustable in height.
Hope that helps!
