I agree, its great to race contemporary karts against contemporary drivers... and even better when you beat them :-) Sitting on the dummy grid doesn't half make me feel old though... With one or two exceptions, I'm old enough to be all of their fathers ! Frightening isn't it.

Having said all of that, as you get older, you do get more mellow and you can put things into proportion. The most important element of karting is fun and the less seriously you take it, the more enjoyable it actually is.
