That is correct Ian, but unfortunately testing in the US has shown that material, dimentions and deflection dont tell the full story ? The metal alloy & Heat treatment, whilst not changing the "stiffness" ( deflection for unit load),.. does change some other properties...notably the vibrational damping characteristics ( Hardend steel "rings" with a higher pitch ?) The dynamic vibrational damping Science (as applied to kart axles) is complex and not fuly understood, but it is known that some axles are termed "hard" or "Soft" with the same physical dimentions and weight and apparently perform very differently on the track ?
