Its mainly due to cameramen and Production teams having to invest in new HD kit etc. When the world went from Beta to Digi, it got silly i believe. You can film in DV but Sky dont like it, especially with the lack of quality at a distance. Motors would take it up to middle of last year.
The truck which Champs of the Future used when i raced would cost you about 20k for the day now!

The filming is still to low cost for a BBC, ITV or Sky to actually facilitate themselves, so a production company will be doing it and then giving it to a platform. Thats how most Motorsport works on Motors. Even BTCC pay for the filming of its races 2mill is the budget......
